A revision of the Genus Scincella (Reptilia: Sauria: Scincidae) of asia, with some notes on its evolution Naturalis
Ouboter, P.E..
Of the genus Scincella Mittleman, 1950 (sensu Greer, 1974) 337 specimens from Asia were examined for 74 characters, which were treated in a numerical-taxonomic way. The dendrogram resulting from this analysis was not stringently adhered to. Because of the wide variation in certain numerical scale characters within one taxon or even within one population, these characters (used by many authors as key characters to separate taxa) are not regarded as very important. For sympatric and parapatric species other characters, including relative size of head, body and limbs, are regarded as very important, because these characters are influenced by the way of life (niche separation). For the separation of allopatric species scale-numbers, but many other characters...

Agulhas Leakage Predominantly Responds to the Southern Hemisphere Westerlies ArchiMer
Durgadoo, Jonathan V.; Loveday, Benjamin R.; Reason, Chris J. C.; Penven, Pierrick; Biastoch, Arne.
The Agulhas Current plays a crucial role in the thermohaline circulation through its leakage into the South Atlantic Ocean. Under both past and present climates, the trade winds and westerlies could have the ability to modulate the amount of Indian-Atlantic inflow. Compelling arguments have been put forward suggesting that trade winds alone have little impact on the magnitude of Agulhas leakage. Here, employing three ocean models for robust analysisa global coarse-resolution, a regional eddy-permitting, and a nested high-resolution eddy-resolving configurationand systematically altering the position and intensity of the westerly wind belt in a series of sensitivity experiments, it is shown that the westerlies, in particular their intensity, control the...

Approche experimentale du comportement d'une plaque composite sous effet d'un choc perforant ArchiMer
Paris, P; Genin, D; Hamelin, P.
Our purpose in this paper is to study the behaviour of composite materials reinforced by glass satin weave 8 fabric under the impact of a projectile. The first part of this paper deals with experimental tests carried out using a servo-hydraulic machine. The hydraulic ram can be programmed to impact the specimen at any desired velocity between a few tenths of a millimetre per minute and 20 m/s. In the second part, these experimental results are compared with the numerical results of bidimensional finite difference code AUTODYN. This program allows the numerical simulation of the penetration of composite plates by projectiles.

Estudio numérico de circulación océanica sobre la plataforma continental argentina OceanDocs
Sitz, L.E..
This dissertation analyses the barotropic and baroclinic response of the Argentinean Continental Shelf to different forcing using a three-dimensional numerical ocean model. The study aims towards a systematical exploration of the physical processes that control the circulation. To facilitate the dynamical understanding of the results our experimental strategy was to start with a three dimensional barotropic model (constant density) that examines the influence of winds and tides, and to progress to a more complex case including density stratification (baroclinic model). It was found that the average annual circulation, forced only by the wind, shows a strong contrast between the northern and southern region of the study area. A detailed analysis...

Evaluation expérimentale et théorique du comportement de panneaux de superstructures en composites ArchiMer
Damonte, R; Iaccarino, R; Puccini, G; Rizzuto, E; Tedeschi, R.
Composite materials represent for shipbuilding industries a possible way to improve the competitiveness of products, particularly in the field of high technology vessels where high strength and stiffness to weight ratios allow increased payload capacity to be obtained, improved performances and lower propulsion costs. In fact with these materials the designer can obtain considerable saving in structural weights, easier production and assembly techniques for complex shapes structures, and better long term performances of the structures when exposed to the marine environment. Unfortunately potentially wide application of F.R.P. structures is restrained by a general lack of knowledge on the mechanical and physical behaviour of these structures. In this...

Modelisation numerique du flambage de panneaux sandwich raidis ArchiMer
Batoz, J; Quesnel, T.
This paper presents a numerical method for the buckling analysis of stiffened sandwich panels for ship building with composite materials. The formulation of a multi-layered quadrilateral finite element of a plane shell including transverse shear effects is presented. Some classical tests allow the performance of this element to be evaluated for composite plates. Then an explanation is given for a method used for analyzing the buckling of panels.

Numerical analysis of scale morphology to discriminate between atlantic salmon stocks ArchiMer
De Pontual, Helene; Prouzet, Patrick.
The use of an image analysis microsystem with a specially developed software enabled scale image processing, outline extraction and computation of features which are not available in the conventional approach of scale analysis. Those parameters (shape factors, moment invariants and elliptic Fourier coefficients) were introduced into a discriminant analysis process to test their usefulness in stock identification. The method was applied to European stocks originating from Norway (Etne river) and France (Elorn river). The low misclassification rate obtained indicates that this approach is particularly promising.

Risk of water surplus in soybean crop on haplic planosol soil in the Central Depression of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil Ciência Rural
Bortoluzzi,Mateus Possebon; Heldwein,Arno Bernardo; Trentin,Roberto; Lucas,Dionéia Daiane Pitol; Righi,Evandro Zanini; Leonardi,Mateus.
ABSTRACT: The aim of this study was to identify soybean sowing dates on which there was low water surplus risk. The crop was raised on a Haplic Planosol soil in the Central Depression of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Soybean development simulations and daily water balances were calculated for different sowing dates from August 1968 to July 2012. Water surplus data was subjected to BoxPlot analyses and Scott-Knott tests at a 5% error probability. Exponential, gamma, lognormal, normal and Weibull functions were tested and the best fits to the data were obtained for both subperiods and total cycle. The highest number of fits for the development cycle and subperiods were obtained using the gamma and weibull functions, respectively. For sowing carried out after...
